Acute angle-closure glaucoma (AACG)

Questionnaire/history:

Sudden onset of symptoms?

Severe pain within one eye and an ache around the eye?

Headache?

Redness of the eye?

Visual changes (eg blurred or reduced vision, circles (haloes) seen around lights)?

Nausea/vomiting?

Feeling generally unwell?

Eye feels hard and tender?

The clear surface of the eye looks hazy?


Past medical history?

Family history?

Current medication?

Drug allergies?


Examination:

Unilateral red eye?

Fixed mid-dilated pupil?

Corneal haze due to oedema in the cornea?

Eyeball hard to touch?

Decreased vision?


Investigations:

Gonioscopy

Tonometry


Management:

Referred for immediate ophthalmology assessment and treatment
